Michael joined HydroXphere, LLC as a partner in 2013 with CEO Charlie Houchin. He holds the title of President. After 30 years as a successful entrepreneur in the financial services industry, Michael decided to change course and focus his experience and resources on building products and services that would inspire participation in the health and safety benefits of aquatic programming. Prior to joining HydroXphere, Michael founded Executive Benefit Services, a nonqualified deferred compensation firm in 1992 and grew it into one of the largest nonqualified plan administrators in the country. Michael sold the company to the Principal Financial Group in 2001 and retired from the Principal in 2005.
Michael spent the next five years managing the Curran Family Foundation, which he founded in 2003. During that time, he led a project to build the Triangle Aquatic Center (TAC) in Cary, North Carolina. TAC is a 72,000 square foot nonprofit public aquatic facility that opened to the communities of the Triangle in October of 2007. It is one of the largest nonprofit public aquatic facilities ever built in the country without tax funding or subsidies. Home to the TAC TITANS, a year-round USA swim team, TAC offers a 50-meter pool, a 10-lane 25-yard pool, a warm water instruction pool, and spectator seating for 1,000.
In 2009, Michael joined CAPTRUST Financial Advisors to build out a nonqualified deferred compensation consulting division. After the successful build out of the nonqualified division, Michael decided to pursue his passion for aquatic innovation with HydroXphere.
