1. Team Cheers
Whether it’s a simple cheer or the cheer that takes five minutes, cheers are some of the fondest memories one will have of summer swimming. Not to mention, they are extremely hard to forget. At the beginning, during breaks, before relays, cheers are always happening! Relays on three…one…two…three…
What is your favorite cheer?
Can you think about that one relay, the very last race of the swim meet, the race that decides the overall winner? If so, pretty exciting right? Not many people can argue against relays being the most fun and exciting part of a swim meet. This time, it’s not just you, but three of your awesome teammates! It makes sharing the stories and memories that much better.
You can’t forget those early mornings, pulling the heavy coolers and tents, setting up the team camps, and watching all those long sessions cheering on your brothers and sisters. Sweating through those long hot summer swim meets may seem tough at times, but at the end of the day, summer swimming is often an incredible family bonding experience!
Friends, teammates, rivals…What’s the difference!? There are many different kinds of friends in the swimming community. Some you swim with everyday and some that are your “enemy” for 15-30 seconds. These are the ones that you will spend a lot of time with and share all those great team memories! Who know’s, maybe you’ll even meet the cap to your goggles…oh swimming humor.
5. Heat Winners
Who needs an Olympic Gold Medal…I just won my 50 backstroke heat. By the end of your career, you may even accumulate 100 of these in all shapes and sizes. Each one will always have a special place in your heart, so make sure to save them for those little swimmers of your own one day!
Summer Swimming is great, but let’s be honest. The trophy is one of the best parts of the entire season. It’s the end of the year, the whole team is there, we’re at the banquet and they call my name. I walk across the stage; proud as can be, and am handed the most beautiful trophy I have ever seen. Until next year that is…
