1. “Can I get a sharpie?”
We all see the infamous sharpies flying around the pool deck and we certainly know that you can never have enough of them. At first, they are used to write down the swimmers’ events, heats, and lanes on their arms. Next thing you know, there are 8 year old sharpie tattoo artists coming out of nowhere!
2. “6 & Unders…Please report to the clerk of course!”
The only reason the clerk of course is on the summer swim meet pool deck… That’s right, to round up those 6 & Unders. One second they are standing with coach ready to swim and the next they are splashing in the baby pool, playing kick ball, or stuffing their faces with candy and ice cream.
3. “What event are they on?”
You will hear this quite often. Not only from the kids, but in fact, mostly from the parents. As much as we all love standing in the sun for a few hours at a summer swim meet, there are always those high hopes that the meet will move a long just a little bit quicker. Using apps like Meet Mobile and Meet Central can help you track along. The shorter the meet, the sooner we can watch our kids and get them to the pizza party!
4. “What place did you get?”
While we can all agree that summer swimming is all about being fun and exciting, a very popular question amongst the kids will always linger around the pool deck: “What place did you get?” Not just to compare who might be better and best times, but for the most important reason of them all, what color ribbon they will get when the meet is over!
5. “We need more volunteers”
When you hear summer league swimming there may be a lot of different things that come to mind. There are some meets that run as “well oiled machines” and some that are extremely chaotic. In order for these swim meets to run, each team will need to throw in their share of volunteers. It can’t be that hard right? Well… As soon as the Volunteers are asked to report, some might magically “disappear!” Using tools like SwimTeam.us, SwimTopia, and Meet Central may be a way for your club to manage and cut down on volunteers.
6. “What am I swimming today?”
I’m not sure a swim coach can count the amount of times that they have heard this question…
7. “Great Swim!”
No matter how old you are, these words will never get old. While the kids may be on top of the world after touching the wall in a personal best time, it will always add the cherry on top of a perfect summer swim meet when they hear, “Great Swim!”
