We know we’re not the most enthusiastic when you wake us up in the morning. We know we’re not always excited about going to practice before school. We know that we’re not always the most cheerful after we do poorly in a race. We know that swim meets are long and boring.
But we never give you our thanks for always being there for us. You still get us up in the morning and drive us to practice (until we get our license and you silently cheer as you no longer have to wake us up and drive us). You are always there to console us after a race and you know the words to make us feel better and to put it behind us. You have been to countless swim meets, waiting hours as we swim for sometimes less than a minute.
We are bad at thanking you. We know this. But all you do for us does not go unnoticed. You are our number one fans. And we’re happy that we’re your number one swimmer. You’ve been with us since the beginning. Whether you were a swimmer yourself back when you were young, or if you only made us start swimming so we wouldn’t drown (hi mom), you were there from the start.
No matter what would happen, we knew that you would always be cheering for us, even if you couldn’t physically be there. Your support always meant so much. Even when we didn’t believe in ourselves, you believed in us. You knew how to push us without putting too much pressure on us. You knew how to motivate us and how to make us the best we could be.
We may never actually say it, but don’t think that all that you’ve done for us has gone unnoticed. We wouldn’t have gotten where we are today without you, both in and out of the pool.
So we say it to you now…..thank you….thank you for everything.
